Isabel: The Final WOD

The last time I did the Isabel WOD was on September 20, 2012. Thursday, December 20, 2012 A: 20 minutes to find a 1 RM Snatch B: "Isabel" Rx: 135/95 30 Snatches for time Results A: If I remember correctly, I PRed recently on my snatches at 100 lb. Yesterday, Coach D was pushing me and I hit a new PR: 105 lbs. He thought I could do more, so I attempted 110 lbs. I failed this attempt 3 times. But you know what, I wouldn't give up, and he didn't either. So I FUCKING NAILED IT! My overhead squat is at 135 lbs, so I should be able to snatch that. Just need to practice my technique. Results B: In September, I finished at 5:34 at 65 lbs. Last night, I finished at 3:44 at 75 lbs! Definitely an improvement. I hauled ass out of the advanced class to get home and shower. Why? No, not cuz "the end of the world" and shit... but because it was my parents' 37th anniversary. My brother and I took them to dinner at Lawry's in Beverly Hills. And I got to drive my …

Results A: 95 lbs

Results B: I think there was a 30 minute cut off time... I finished 5 rounds + 7 power snatches + 3 snatch balances at Rx :) It sucks that I didn't get to finish the entire 7 rounds but it definitely kicked my ass.

Results B: I think I was just shit tired, I'm not quite sure, but I felt like I could have definitely done more reps in all of them. I need to stop being so reliant on doing negative pull ups and start doing kipping.

The internet has been down at work so my down time was spent reading The Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I'm still up in the air about it.

Anyways, my lack of sleep is starting to affect my health. I think I'm getting sick. Let's hope it passes ASAP.

Results: 33:01 with a 35 minute time cap
When I finished, I just laid down on the bench and contemplated life

I'm not sure what's worse... this or the Filthy 50. Regardless, anything with the number in the name isn't going to be good.

Results A: My 1 rep max for my back squat is 230 lbs. It was hard focusing yesterday because one of the guys next to me sounded like a car on hydraulics. And then he wanted to go at the same time, to hide his hydraulics with my labor sounds. Yes, I either sound like I'm having sex or giving birth. My weights were: 135-160-175-185

Results B: I used 44 lbs kettle bells. I was doing well... up until the 4th round. Due to my poor eating right before the WOD, I ended up running to the bathroom and threw up. FAIL FAIL DNF OMG.

When I got out of the bathroom, we all had to do 30 burpees. Horrible. HORRIBLE.

After that, 3 x 20 abmat sit ups.

This whole 80/20 Paleo thing isn't working for me. I think my body really wants to be Whole 30 Pa…

Injured Jerk.

I've been in pain on my left tricep and my left hand. More like my entire left arm just hates me, lol. I asked Coach D what may be wrong and he said I have something-something-itis and I just need to stretch and massage the fluff out of my left tricep. Like, where the muscle twists and connects to the inside part of my elbow... I don't know. But when he was pressing on it, I nearly cried.

The last time I did push jerks from the rack was 11/10/12 at 100 lbs. This was towards the end of the paleo challenge, so I didnt' feel as strong. On 8/21/12, I hit my 1 rep max at 115 lbs.

CrossFit Ero: Paleo Challenge Prize #2

When Coach P mentioned she got another paleo challenge prize, it was evident that I was excited as hell. She gave it to me last night... here it is! Oh, and guess what... it's signed! :) I am definitely going to make use of this. I can't wait. But as Marilyn predicted, I probably will take a few weeks to actually look at it, as I did with the NomNomPaleo app.... woops. Hooray for resources!

Results A: Last Sunday, I went to open gym and really tried to the rope climb. I spent most of Saturday doing handstand walks and doing the rope again. I ended up walking 5 steps in a handstand, and I climbed to the very top of the rope. When I got to the top, I yelled for Coach J and WOOP! He witnessed it :) I was scared to come down so he helped guide me down with the rope. I was so stoked. Unfortunately, no muscle ups for me.

Thursday, December 6, 2012 Warm Up: 1k jog and Ero warm up A: Front Squat 7 x 3 In between each set, perform 5 pull ups B: 3 Rounds for time 30 walking lunges 15 toes to bar 400m run A: I did my 3 rep max at 150 lbs. I should have been able to do more weight but I was simply tired. Yesterday was my 7th WOD day in a row. Total mistake. I need to let my body rest. I woke up feeling like a truck hit me. B: For toes to bar, I did knees to elbows/chest. My time was 11:46.  So much running yesterday. After the WOD, I just kind of sat there and stared because my pain was just increasing. The last time I did snatches... it was back in September at 95 lbs. I probably could have done more weight, but I really need to get the fundamentals down. Results B: I had to sub with the pull ups and ring dips... I did negative pull ups, and used an orange stretchy band for the ring dips. I couldn't do prescribed so I did it at 75 lbs. Results: My time was 31:23 using a 20" box, 26 lbs kettle bell, 35 lb push press, 35 lb good mornings/back extensions, 10 lb wall ball shots (I couldn't find a 14 lb ball), and 150 single turns

CrossFit Ero: My Success Story

Yesterday morning, Coach D asked me to write my success story to be featured on the website. Here's what it looks like on CrossFit Ero and my page.



If you don't feel like going to the links, here's what was posted December 3, 2012: Through junior high and high school, I’ve always had an athletic background, one being an avid softball player. Once college came, and working full time, my priorities changed. Gaining the Freshman 15 was more like the Freshman 50. Turning 21… we know how that is. Needless to say, I was not at my physical/mental best. Because of the rut I was in, my confidence and self-esteem followed.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and if things didn’t change, I would soon become diabetic. I calorie counted for months, spent hours at the gym with hardly any success. All that hard work and starvation simply made me frustrated.

Warm up: 100 rope turns + 2 rounds of "Cindy" (5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 air squats) and Ero warm up

A: Thrusters (from the ground) 7 x 1

Results A: I was super excited to use my new oly shoes! It feels good. Anyways, I haven't done thrusters since I've hurt my shoulder back in October. Last time, it was at 65 lbs. Yesterday... 65-75-85-95-105-115-125 :) So, I guess that means I PRed 6 times, lol.

Results B: During the strength part, 95 lbs felt pretty hard. I feel like I should have gone Rx. My time was 18:55 at 85 lbs. It hurt so bad that I had to go on the floor. That's not often either.

Overall, I had a slow work day, caught up on Revenge, PRed on my Thrusters, used my Adipower oly shoes, made some yummy ribeye steak and sweet potato fries, AND I was featured on CrossFit Ero's website :) I'll create a new post.

Crossfit Ero's Paleo Challenge Prize

I went to Open Gym for the first time yesterday. I was practicing an array of movements, which resulted in hitting a new back squat PR (personal record)... my last PR was 215 lbs. Yesterday, I hit 230 lbs! I got to practice my cleans, snatches, overhead squats and climbed the fat ass rope. After a successful 2 hour session of socializing and working out, Coach D came and gave me my Paleo Challenge prize... Adipower Olympic Weightlifting Shoes. BAWSSSEEE.

Crossfit ALL DAY.

On Saturday, December 1, 2012... after our morning WOD, Cecilia and I went to Original Pancake House and grubbed like there was no tomorrow. She had the corn beef hash, and I had the eggs Benedict with a side of bacon strips and pancakes. We also shared the huge ass apple pancakes. FAILEO.

After a delicious and over-filling breakfast, we headed over to my brother's gym and checked out their event, Snatches for Staches. It's a fundraiser/competition to raise money for Cancer Awareness. It was pretty cool.



We were on our way home when I saw on Facebook that one of the guys that was coaching/training at Crossfit Ero opened up his own gym. So we headed to the grand opening and said our hellos!

I've always wanted to be rolled around in a tire. So that's exactly what I did.


After a very long day of crossfit, I had to get ready for my hott date with Nancy :) She started feeling better. We ended up going to Del Amo to shop. We were looking for an outfit for me for Ero's…

I had an amazing rest on Friday night. Nancy was supposed to WOD with me and Cecilia on Saturday morning but she wasn't feeling well.

Warm up: 200 rope turns + Ero warm up

Results A: My strict press PR is 80 lbs. I did this work out at 75 lbs. I need to find my 1 rep max now for that. It was a struggle. I need to practice dipping and pushing my knees out while I do the push press.

Results B: Active 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds for 4 minutes. DEATH.
Our results are based on our LOWEST rep count per set. I had to estimate because I counted totals.

Burpees: 12 low, 52 total
Sit ups: 18 low, 84 total
Wall balls (14#): 9 low, 48 total

My hands are so bruised and whatnot. About halfway during the wall balls, I caught it and squatted too low that I literally fell on my ass. I kept laughing and I felt bad because I kept distracting poor Cecilia.

Mah Bodeh.

On Thursday, the 29th, I skipped the WOD. I was really having trouble deciding whether I should go or not. I think I asked like 6 people if I should go. By the time I got home from work, I was dizzy and achey. In my previous post, I got the good news that night that I had won Crossfit Ero's Paleo Challenge. My brother, Steven, picked me up and we had a celebratory dinner at this pho place. It helped my mini cold. After, we headed to the mall to run some errands. It actually made me feel better. I slept so good though.

Crossfit Ero: Paleo Challenge Results

Just wanted to share the good news! The results were posted yesterday :) The original prize was a gift card from my gym, Crossfit Ero, paleo kit, mee nut butter, gym gear, etcetera. But my coach contacted me and offered to get me Adipower OLY shoes! So, I'll be getting those instead. Time to retire my Reebok Oly shoes, after only a month of having them, lol. I'm so proud :) And I really wanted to win because I worked so damn hard. If I can do it, so can you :)

Results A: The last time I PRed was on October 9, 2012 and I hit 120 lbs. I was so mad and just so full of anger that these were my results... 65-85-95-115-125-135-140 ... I PRed 3 times, lol.

Results B: I did 5 rounds + 3 push press + 2 pull ups (at 90 lbs)... I think I used so much of my energy during the strength portion of the work out that I was super beat during the metcon.

Needless to say, crossfit made my day much better.

It was a hard WOD. I think I could have done more weight during the AMRAP, I don't know why I didn't lol. I need to stop letting the weight intimdate me. I know I'm strong, I just gotta keep my entire core tight and focus on what needs to be done.

Results A: I practiced my kipping pull ups. I think I have the strength, but I need to get the kipping motion down.

Results B: 5:01 Rx :)
I think I was an advantage because I didn't work on the push press (beginner's WOD). However, I was tired from all the kipping pull ups. But I'm proud of my metcon time. My brother guessed that I completed in 8-9 minutes. WOOP WOOP. It still burned like a bitch.

To finish the work out, we had to do 3 x 20 abmat sit ups. I want abzzzz.

I think I need this shirt...

I must say that this past weekend was so much fun.... full of good times and food. However, after 4 days of eating what I used to... you can see the effects of processed foods on my body.

Here's a few things:
I gained some weight back :(I started to break out!I have headachesI have not slept well On Saturday night, it was ridiculous because I had myself a regular Kit Kat bar... you know. My ALL TIME FAVORITESTEST candy. At 10 pm, I consumed the sugary goodness, and I couldn't sleep until 4:30 am. Horrible.

On Wednesday night after the paleo meeting, Cecilia and I went to Furusato KBBQ to get our grub on. I went to town with the rice paper. On Thursday, I went to Eatalian and had 2 different kinds of pastas, pizza, and gelato. Delicious. BUT, on Friday I really felt horrible. I woke up feeling sluggish and whatnot. Come WOD time, I threw up 2-3 times! NEVER AGAIN. After the WOD, Cecilia, some of the people from Ero, and I went to Shilla KBBQ where I drank a lot. Well, "a l…

Warm up: 1k run and Ero warm up

Okay first and foremost, you know how I posted that yummy looking pasta the other day? WORST DECISION EVER! During our stretches/warm ups, I felt SO sick. It was ridiculous. After the warm ups, I felt so sick that when I went to go pee, I looked at the toilet and threw up! HORRIBLE. Right before the back squats, I threw up. Right after the back squats, I threw up again. Talk about shock!!

Results A: Last time I back squatted at 155 lbs, this time, only 115 lbs because 1. my back was sore from the deadlifts and 2. I was feeling sick.

Results B: Negative pull ups, knee push ups
I completed 3 rounds + 20 pull ups + 30 push ups and 39 sit ups

After the nausea subsided, Cecilia and I were going to go get Indian food, all part of our post-paleo binging. Good thing we did…

Results A: On 10/4/12, I PRed my deadlift at 275 lbs. Yesterday, I PRed at 285 lb! Thanks Coach D and Miss E for the push!

Results B: This metcon was a fail:
5 rounds @ 205 lbs by 8 minutes and 30 seconds
1 round @ 175 lbs
My back started to hurt so I stopped with the lifting and ended up doing just the negative handstand push ups and running for the rest of the time: 9 rounds + 4 negative hand stand push ups

I was able to get a good work out in from that and very disappointed that I couldn't do the WOD completely. SIGHHHH. I need to stop thinking about the amount of weight and just do it. I am glad that I chose to continue to work out with the other crossfitters for the rest of the time though :)

It was the only day of the week where Dan can see me so we spent our time at the gym, lol. Poor guy. He's so supportive of this, especially since I love it...

Nancy's sister came and also Nancy's and my (old) co-worker. Ana (the sister) loved it and I think she'll be joining soon. The co-worker Heidi, not so much. But you know, crossfit isn't for everyone!

Anyways, for the metcon, it was only me and this other guy doing it. I like WODing with him cuz he's such a beast. LOL.

After the WOD, Dan and I headed out to eat clean. Yup. KBBQ! But all I had was brisket and veggies.

Crossfit Ero's 30 Day Paleo Challenge

In reference to Marilyn's "You go Glen Coco" post, I have officially completed Crossfit Ero's 30 Day Paleo Challenge. We were doing the Whole 30 Challenge. I must say that this has to be one of the hardest things I've gotten myself to into. Cutting everything out cold turkey was hard as hell. For the first 10 days, I was so groggy and miserable... having headaches all the time. Once I got 2 weeks in, things got easier. I've developed good eating and cooking habits, having fresh breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner... I must say, the last 30 days forced me to learn how to cook. And I haven't been able to cook myself a real dish... EVER.
Last Saturday, 11-10-12, I had finished a WOD, went home to wait for my brother to get home to eat. Things didn't fall through and I was so busy that all I had in the morning was a banana. The first and only meal I consumed that day was at 6 pm. I went to Wood Ranch with Dan. I was really strict paleo, and he had ordered …

Warm up: 200 rope turns and Ero warm up

A: Power snatch + overhead squat 7 x 1

B: For time:
15 power snatch 135/95
30 box jumps 24"/20"
10 power snatch
20 box jumps
5 power snatch
10 box jumps

Results A: I knew I needed to work on my form so adding weight wasn't really a big deal for me. But I did anyway! I PRed at 100 lbs (power snatch)! I attempted 105 lbs but I failed. My overhead squat is at 115 lbs, so I'm sure I could have done it again, but doing this complex was hard.

Results B: 75 lbs / 20"
I ended up dying finishing by 8:41

I really want to get better at all my lifts, but agh, I think I'm getting impatient. I definitely need to hit up one of the open gym days to work on it.

Progression yeeee

So, I went to Norstroms yesterday and it took every fiber of my being to not splurge. Therefore, I only got this top. It's an XL and I can finally button the bust. TRUST ME. This is a big thing. I've been keeping track of my progress so hopefully come New Years', I will post before/after pictures and whatnot. Remember: Diets are to make you look good in clothes. Exercise make you look good naked. Thank you all for reading and your support! This journey has been one bad ass mofo.

Results A: 4:10.5 I think this is a PR :) I tried getting it done under 4 minutes but it was definitely a challenge

Results B: 7:14 at 65 lbs for the first 21 reps, then went down to 55 lbs; negative pull ups

Warm Up: 1k run and Ero warm up with squat walks forward, back, Samson stretch and bear crawls... Hurt so bad but it was good for the body since it was cold

I wish I hit more weight but I need to get the mechanics down

Results B: 11:47 doing negative hand stand push ups, negative pull ups and knees to chest

Everytime you stop and rest with your chest on the floor, it counts as a penalty = 200 meter sprint. You must complete penalty immediately

C: 3 x 20 abmat sit ups

Results A: I'm still sore from Monday's work out, so I was totally sandbagging yesterday (UGH). I hit 145 lbs by my 5th set. I could've done more.

Results B: 35 regular push ups, 115 girly push ups - 9:45

Yesterday's WOD was perfect because I couldn't push any harder. It's the weather, I tell you.

So, apparently I've been officially initiated into the Crossfit Community. Why? I got my first callus tear. No, not WHILE doing a WOD, but because I kept picking at my callus and it snagged onto my shirt and made me bleed. I've been very self conscious about how I do my cleans ever since I did that women's seminar. Last night, after Coach D critiquing me and and helping me with my form, and after 3 failed attempts, I finally power cleaned the RIGHT way AND PRed at 135 lbs :) !! Monday, November 5, 2012 Warm up: 1k run and Ero warm up A: 7 x 4 Front Squat The first 3 sets are warm ups, and the last 4 are 70% of 1 RM B: AMRAP 12 4 pull ups 6 clapping push ups 8 standing broad jumps C: Max effort plank hold Results A: My 1 RM is 195 lbs so I was pushing 135 lbs at first. Coach D thinks I could do more so I ended up doing 165 lbs. He wants me to start adding heavier weight so my upper body can get used to it. It was a hard push but I eventually did it. I need to remember to keep my elbows up and my core tight. Results B: I was able to get in 7 rounds + 1 pull up I FINALLY DID ALL KIPPING PULL UPS IN A WOD! This is definitely a big deal for me! Maybe 5 of the 24 I did were fully successful, but nevertheless, I still did it! I did regular push ups and completed the WOD. Results C: 1:01 ... my goal was 30 seconds. So, I exceeded it. LOL. I could feel when I'm doing my cleans wrong. And I was busy focusing on HOW to do the clean that I kept messing up my jerks. Yesterday was just frustrating.

Results B: 14:47 at 75 lbs
8 rounds, 9 deadlifts and 5 hang power cleans

Nancy and I finished our work out by doing some extra stuff. Nancy did 4 sets of 20 abmat situps, and I was holding handstands and hanging from the bar (to strengthen my arms/shoulders and lats).

GAH. Although yesterday was a a;sldfjas;lfkajsf day, tonight's Halloween WOD should be fun.

And!! I have the Color Run in San Diego this weekend, and some rave that Nancy is inviting me to :) So busy!
